Architectural Story
The monument is conceived as the hand of a clock. Its moving shadow registers time across the memorial wall, connecting the act of remembrance to the changing light of the day. A direct connection to the earth, without a pedestal, and a semi-reflective surface that approaches the color of the sky reinforce the relationship between ground and atmosphere.
Solstice and equinox references inform the wall and landscape alignments. The memorial hall echoes the wall’s form, while sunlit exterior spaces and shaded interior areas are conceived as complementary parts of a whole. Their meeting at the monument brings the project’s landscape, architecture and commemorative purpose together.
