Chicago River Museum

Chicago River Museum / DuSable Park
An unbuilt museum proposal at DuSable Park, on the edge of Chicago, bringing cultural space into an existing landscape setting. The project considers the city’s history and skyline together, with the museum conceived as part of the park rather than as a replacement for it.

Architectural Story
The project is shaped by two concerns: the view of Chicago’s skyline and the city’s history. The changing outline of the skyline becomes a way to read the city, while its development is considered through three forms of transportation: river and boat, train and railway, and automobile and road.
These layers of movement offer a framework for connecting the museum to Chicago’s wider story. At the same time, the proposal preserves the idea of the site as a park between Lake Michigan and the city. The architectural intervention is intended to belong to that landscape, allowing the experience of the park and the experience of the museum to remain connected.
